Paul confronted Peter over the breaking of fellowship with the Gentiles. When Paul tries to help with the matter, Peter rebuked him. So instead of standing up for what he knew was right, he felt peer pressure and tried to ignore Paul. But if Paul knew he'd feel humiliated by the church, why not talk to Peter in private? I think it's because Peter had sinned in public, and his sin affected the entire church causing the church to split. So, the only appropriate way of bringing the church back as a whole again was for Peter to be manifested by Paul in front of the church. Peter was living like a gentile when he knew he was raised to be a Jew. But then Peter would separate from the Gentiles because they did not follow the cerimonal washing or eating habits of the Jews and also because he doesn't want to be caught eating Gentile food when he should be following the law of Jews. So now he is telling the Gentiles if you do not live like a Jew, you will become a so called " second class Christian. " I think what the church can learn from this is don't be a hypocrite. Meaning, don't say you're a Christain and then go against God's word. People now a days say they are a Christain but in no way act modestly like one. You can say your a Chistain but until you act on it, then you aren't because being a Christain means not only living for Christ but acting like it.
